About Us
Piracy, and other forms of maritime predation, are global phenomena that have lasted millennia, yet they pose persistent problems. States, maritime communities, victims, courts, and the general public have struggled to define, understand, combat, or suppress piracy. Scholars from across disciplines still struggle to investigate the broad scope of piracy and its wide-ranging implications.
The Problem of Piracy Network formed in 2019 to investigate these and other questions in an inclusive, collegial environment. We welcome anyone studying any aspect of piracy and maritime predation in any time or place, or through any disciplinary lens. The network brings together a wide range of postgraduate, early career, and senior researchers from various disciplines. In addition to holding a biennial conference, the network hosts occasional online seminars and seeks publication opportunities for exceptional work.
